'Focus' is a trackless virtual set creation system. It does not require any expensive camera motion trackers that allow other systems to emulate virtual camera movements and zooming. Instead,
'Focus' uses a practically unlimited number of virtual cameras that can be moved within the 3D graphics environment or zoomed in/out without an effort while the physical camera remains still. This enables users to dramatically reduce the size of their studio thus saving big on the backdrop material and lighting and eliminate the need to build "hard sets" altogether.
'Focus' uses multi-channel color keying hardware and software. The unique real time color keying module included in all models of
'Focus' may not look as sophisticated as some of the competitors' models. Nevertheless, it performs extremely well even with non-professional video equipment (e.g. a consumer DV camera connected using S-Video cable) and imperfect background or lighting. The keying algorithm does not get confused by translucent or ultra-fine objects, smoke or shadows. And the best of all, the color keying software has been made amazingly easy to use by hiding all complex calculations behind a single "Build Key" button. Lastly, in a few special cases when the automatic keying may not be desired, advanced users will be able to manually tweak keying parameters using the special control panel as required.
'Focus' renders 3D worlds created with leading industry tools. Being a truly 3D virtual set,
'Focus' is not limited to simple background and foreground 2D images around the live video of an actor. Instead, it operates with 3D mesh objects, materials, virtual lights, cameras and animation tracks created with popular 3D graphics design software such as 3D Studio Max with support for Maya and SoftImage coming in the near future. The preloaded 3D graphics data gets converted into the full D1 resolution, 32-bit color output images in real time by one of the most powerful 3D rendering engines in the world based on the renowned GeForce3 chip.
'Focus' processes live or pre-recorded video in 3D scene as a texture. When it comes to mixing video with the 3D graphics,
'Focus' stands well above the competition once again by offering the virtual set designer and program producer an unbelievable wealth of possibilities.
'Focus' system can operate with up to 2 separate live video feeds or 1 live and 1 pre-recorded (AVI) video feeds both at full-D1 or reduced resolution with or without transparency Alpha- channel. Any of these video feeds can be used as special kind of material (texture) for any of the 3D objects in the scene. The target object may have any shape and furthermore may be animated, deformed, morphed, highlighted with a virtual light and a lot more. The
'Focus' hardware will reflect all applicable changes to video image in real time.
'Focus' can be easily connected to other A/V recording/editing/SFX equipment. No matter how flexible and powerful the video production system such as
'Focus' is, it alone can not possibly satisfy all functional requirements of the modern production studio environment. Therefore, the
'Focus' has been designed with the greatest degree of compatibility with external A/V equipment. Any of the desired analog or digital video and audio outputs can be connected to a suitable recording, editing device, special effects or titling generator, production switch or even to the real time MPEG encoder to deliver compressed digital A/V content over networks including the Internet.
