Press conference of firm ERA on IBC'2000

Speech of Prof. Mark Krivocheev, Honorary Chairman of ITU-R 6th Commission
Mister Chairman, Mister Gerasim Gadiyan, Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends
My experience confirms that if you like to make a speech as short as possible, you have to write it down. I have done that, and I would like to read you what I prepared for such an event. Taking into consideration that the main characteristics of this system were already given in course of this presentation, I would like to draw your attention on my personal point of view at some special aspects related to the system, which you may agree with or not.
First of all, I would like to stress that the appearance of this system is not just a result of brilliant personal initiative of ERA engineers but also a natural response to the request of today broadcasting activity. It means that new digital era in broadcasting requires the fundamentally new approach to the problem of optimization of TV and radio broadcasting equipment sets. It's also necessary to stress that this system is designed not only for broadcasters, communications operators and other users of broadcasting equipment, but for manufactures as well. I'd like to stress that manufactures must be very careful using this system. It means that looking at the broadcast equipment set recommended by the system as optimal for users at any particular case, most of the manufactures should ask themselves the question "Why this is not my company's equipment that is recommended by the system as an optimal one for the user?". What does it mean? It means that may be the answer to such a question and the corresponding analysis will become the brand new start for such manufacturers. I'm sure that for today's broadcasting digital world which is changing with every new day, the optimal broadcasting equipment configuration should be the subject of constant monitoring and the sets recommended should be subject of constant renovation.
It means particularly that it may be reasonable to consider the questions concerning optimal broadcasting equipment sets at the international level up to creation, may be, of special group or special committee for study and harmonization of systems. It also may be interesting for Broadcasting Unions and for leader of the broadcasting world Mr. Khushu, who is present here. Mr. Khushu is a Chairman of All-World-Wide Broadcasting Union Technical Committee and Technical Director of Asia Broadcasting Union. Unfortunately, Mr. David Wood could not come here. You know, David Wood is Deputy Chairman of Conference Committee of IBC Amsterdam and Head of New Technology of the European Broadcasting Union. But they appreciate the system very high, and Mr. Roger Miles from EBU is presented here.
Anyway, I'm sure that the designer of this system should make a special report about this system including IBC Amsterdam progress at the next NAB Convention in Las-Vegas in April 2001. I'l be glad if next speakers express their opinion on this. In conclusion, I would like, on behalf of all participants of this presentation, to congratulate Mr. Gerasim Gadiyan and his Era company with their achievement which has brilliant perspectives in new century. Thank you.
