Cinema of tomorrow comes now!

G.S. Gadiyan, Chairman Conference organizational committee
Electronic (Digital) Cinema Is a technologically complete digital process to produce, distribute and exhibit films. Converting the whole technical base of cinema into a digital one gives both economic benefits and new possibilities unimaginable early in the traditional filmmaking. Due to digital satellite and fiber optic distribution channels, it's now feasible to show a premier film worldwide. In electronic theatres, viewers could watch on wide screens not only films but also important cultural, political and sports events in real time. Not having a well-run film distribution system, Russia is a very perspective country to introduce a complete technological chain of Electronic Cinema: digital HD production, digital HD broadcasting (distribution) and digital HD exhibition.
The international "Electronic Cinema. Production and distribution" conference will enable participants to acquaint themselves with all facets of Electronic Cinema - from production to distribution, and to discuss perspectives for Digital Cinema evolvement in Russia. Contributers will be scientists; leading specialists from JVC, Sony, QuVis, Snell&Wilcox; representatives of filmmaking companies (UMP) and satellite communications operators (Space Communications), mass media (TKT, WideScreen) and others.
The international conference will give an opportunity to assess pictures outputted by various sources: the QuBit HD disk recorder made by QuVis, an HDCAM videotape recorder, the HM-DH30000U HD videotape recorder (D-VHS) made by JVC and a DVD player, and to make a quality comparison between materials shot on different media. For the first time in Russia, there will be demonstrated on a cinema screen QXGA quality (2048x1536) images projected by the DLA-QX1 digital projector of high quality.
